A fictional escape. The runner on the interactive treadmill is confronted with film images, an escape with fragments of the ‘beautiful world outside’, and encounters with people therein.
We constructed an interactive running belt to make possible a ‘fictitious escape’. Escapes were filmed from the roof, the kitchen and the bakery lorry. The escape route out of the prison can be manipulated by the running behaviour of the delinquents on the interactive running belt. The runner can see film footage of his escape to the south of Italy. Twenty-eight hours of film is stored in a computer, divided into several cities. The runner can vary the speed and will thereby enter different image layers that relate to the chosen running speed.
